Does anyone know the top speed (not average) that an Indy car can go around the 500 track? |

In all my years of watching, it seems I remember something 231 or 232 on the back stretchas being top speed. |

In the mid-90's (before the split) when Arie set the fastest ever lap (236.?), the actual top end at the end of the straights were probably clipping in around 240 or a little more. |

On May 12, 1996, Arie Luyendyk set the one and four-lap qualification records for the IMS race course. The one-lap record is 237.498 mph (37.895 sec.) and the four-lap record is 236.986 mph (2:31.908), so you could expect the end of straightaway speeds to be close to 240-242 mph. |
